What is this?

A free chess certificate template you fill in on screen. Kids keep certificates for years, and a club night or school tournament feels finished when everyone walks away with one, not just the winner. Typing names into a word processor one by one takes ages, so this page makes the whole stack at once: every name on its own certificate, with the award, event name, date and signature lines already in place.

Planning the prize table too? Our chess tournament prizes guide has ideas for every budget, and the school chess tournament guide covers the rest of the day.

How to use it

  1. Paste your players, one name per line. Most lists copy straight out of a spreadsheet or an email.
  2. Pick a default award, such as Participation. To give someone a different award, add it after a spaced dash: Ana Lopez - 1st Place.
  3. Type the event name, the date and who is signing. Anything left blank becomes a line to write on.
  4. Pick a colour and your paper. Choose Ink saver for a big black and white batch.
  5. Press Print or save as PDF. In the print window pick your printer, or Save as PDF to keep a file.

Chess certificate ideas for kids and clubs

The easiest way to make every child feel part of it is one certificate each, with the top three getting their place. Beyond the podium, these awards go down well:

Common questions

Where can I get a free chess certificate template?

Right here. Type your event name, paste your players one per line and press Print. Every player gets their own certificate with their name and award filled in, on A4 or Letter. Choose Save as PDF in the print window if you want a file to email or print later.

Can I give different awards to different players?

Yes. Pick a default award for everyone, such as Participation, then add a different one to any line with a spaced dash, for example Ana Lopez - 1st Place or Ben Cho - Most Improved. Lines without a dash get the default.

What should a chess certificate say?

The player's name, what the award is for, the event name and the date, plus a signature from the organiser, coach or teacher. For kids, giving everyone a certificate works well: the top three get their place and everyone else gets one for taking part, most improved or best sportsmanship.

What paper should I print chess certificates on?

Plain printer paper works fine, and thicker card of around 160 to 200 gsm feels more special if your printer takes it. The certificate prints landscape on A4 or Letter. Pick the Ink saver colour if you are printing a big batch in black and white.

Do I need to sign up to make chess certificates?

No. This page runs entirely in your browser, needs no account and adds no watermark, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. If you run the whole tournament in the ChessHost app, it also makes a certificate for every player automatically once the event is finished, with their final place already on it.
